You’ll never feel ready

Featuring words by guest blogger: Carly Hartshorn

Take a minute and think about your goals for the future. Where do you want to be in 5 years? In 10 years? We all have goals and plans for our future, but what’s most important is what we do on a day to day basis to work towards these goals. With a 5 year or 10 year plan it’s easy to put these goals aside and assume it’ll all work itself out over the years.

Are you currently working at a position that will lead you forwards in your career path?

How about your relationship? Are you with someone that you see yourself staying with forever? Are they helping you to learn and grow?

We all have goals for the future but what really matters is how we’re working towards these goals. Myself, being a typical Taurus, any move towards my goals needs to be thoroughly planned.

So I plan

and I think

and I analyze

Until I’ve totally talked myself out of whatever I want to achieve for the time being because I don’t have enough money yet, or I don’t feel like putting in the time, or simply because I’m happy where I am right now. Basically, I don’t feel ready. Sound familiar? Taurans, where you at?

If you’re anything like me, I dare you to make a little move. Because here’s the thing. When are you realistically going to be ready to move towards where we want to be? When I sit down and take inventory of the best things in my life right now (my boyfriend, my apartment, my dog, my independence living in Toronto, being part of the WIPP community (!)) the majority of these things weren’t the smartest or most thought through moments, and I sure as hell didn’t feel ready to make these moves at the time. My ‘fuck it’ moments led to big life changes that shaped who I am and what I truly love about my life.

So, if any of this resonates with you, I dare you to fuck holding back on your 5 year, 10 year plans. Figure out what your plans are and come up with an action plan on what you can be doing right now to work towards your dream future.
